The Gophers kicked the season off against the Drake Maye-less North Carolina Tar Heels and lost 19-17 after a second missed field goal by last year's kicker of the year. A very disappointing start to the season. I don't understand what PJ Fleck does with his "unique practicing style," but we always have top players injured.
Star RB Darius Taylor was unable to play in the opening week due to an injury sustained before the season even started. This is becoming a common theme. The Gophers also signed a gun slinging QB, Max Brosmer, from New Hampshire this offseason. Brosmer led the entire FCS level the last 2 seasons in passing yards and touchdowns, but then looked like he never played QB in this first game. Let the guy sling it! What are we even doing?
This weekend the Gophers will host Rhode Island. Max Brosmer payed against this team last year and threw for almost 500 yards and 2 TDs. We are headed for another 5 win season if he finishes the game with like 200 yards, 1 TD, and 2 INT. The Gophers should win this game 60-0, but we know this won't happen. It will likely end in a close game with Rhode Island having a chance to win in the 4th Quarter.
I don't look at this being a negative post, just being a realistic view basing my prediction off past performances and coaching history.
Whatever.
